Siting & Contested Permitting: Greenfield corridors require negotiating thousands of landowner easements and clearing contested state Certificate of Convenience and Necessity (CCN) hearings.

Equipment Supply Chains: Global manufacturing constraints have driven structural steel, high-voltage transformers, and switchgear lead times to 3–5+ years, leaving ground-up builds exposed to extended factory backlogs.

Heavy Civil Construction: Constructing new regional lines is inherently a multi-year undertaking, requiring extensive site mobilization, deep foundation drilling, and erecting new lattice structures across hundreds of miles.

Permitting and execution delays are unavoidable with greenfield transmission buildouts. If we are to meet surging large-load demand, we must expand the U.S. grid's capabilities within existing rights-of-way.
